ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team continued its success as they completed day three at the Navy Invitational Sunday.
The Sooners brought home two singles flight champions and two doubles flight champions. OU tied Arkansas with the second most singles flight champions. Oklahoma led all schools with two doubles flight champions.
Sergey Avdeyev claimed the No. 1 singles flight championship and Ryan Thomas claimed the No. 5 singles flight championship.
Avdeyev, playing No.1 singles, defeated David Kwon of Princeton/Maryland in two sets, winning 6-3, 6-3. Thomas, at No. 5, disposed of Aaron Carr of Princeton/Maryland in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5).
In doubles action, the tandem of Federico Chavarria and Thomas finished the invitational as the No. 1 doubles flight champions. Avdeyev teamed up with Jorge Villanueva of Arkansas for the No. 3 doubles play and the duo finished as the flight champions.
Chavarria and Thomas defeated the Princeton/Maryland duo of Kwon and Nicolai Nielsen by winning 8-6. Avdeyev and Villanueva defeated the Princeton/Maryland twosome of Alex Aksanov and Mike Coleman, 8-0.
The Sooners continue their fall schedule on the road next week when they travel to Waco, Texas, for the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate, Sept. 21-23.
