NORMAN, Okla. OU sophomore mens basketball forward Kevin Bookout is one of 12 collegians who will participate on the NIT All-Star squad Aug. 3-12 in the Bahamas.

The NIT All-Stars, who have toured internationally since 1980, will play an eight-game schedule against the Bahamas national team, junior national team and various club teams. Bookout will depart Oklahoma City Wednesday.

Bookout is coming off a stellar freshman campaign that saw him average 9.4 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game, and lead the Big 12 Conference with a .587 field goal percentage. The 6-8, 260-pounder started in 33 of OUs 34 games and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Bookout also earned All-America honors in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June.

Lacing up their shoes with Bookout on the all-star team will be John Blackgrove (Fordham), Taliek Brown (Connecticut), Keydren Clark (St. Peters), Tim Frost (Utah), Wendell Gibson (Hofstra), Daryll Hill (St. Johns), Greg Jenkins (Iona), J.C. Mathis (Michigan), Peter Mulligan (Manhattan), Sean Munson (Wagner) and Kirk Snyder (Nevada).

The NIT All-Stars will be coached by George Bucci, former Manhattan College and New Jersey Nets (ABA) player. Bucci also played 13 years in the Italian Professional League and was a seven-time all-star. He has guided NIT All-Star squads to a 29-5 record as head coach since 1998.

Bookout was scheduled to participate in the USA Basketball Pan American Games training camp earlier this month but class obligations prohibited him from doing so.
