NORMAN, Okla.The No. 23 Oklahoma men’s tennis team will begin Big 12 play on the road in Lincoln, Neb., against No. 75 Nebraska on Friday, March 31.
Oklahoma kicked off its 2007 campaign against Nebraska, defeating the Huskers 4-0 in the first round of the USTA/ITA Central Regional.
The Sooners climbed 29 spots No. 23 Monday, reaching their highest ranking in 15 years. OU is 16-2, 7-2 against ranked opponents, and has won its last three matches..
Leading the Sooners is freshman Vaclav Kucera. Monday this freshman standout was named Big 12 Player of the Week by the league office for his outstanding play March 23-25. He won all three of his singles matches at the Rice Invitational and upset two nationally ranked players.
Kucera is currently ranked 83rd by the ITA and is 13-1 in singles play (8-1 at the No. 1 slot) and 7-5 in doubles. He is 4-1 against ranked opponents
