Velicka Drops NCAA Singles Match

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma Marek Velicka was one of 64 NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles competitors at the year’s national tournament held in College Station, Texas. The Prerov, Czech Republic native concluded his sophomore season Wednesday by dropping a 6-1, 6-2 first round decision to No. 51 Kevin Anderson of Illinois at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

The 6-3 sophomore went 28-14 on the season, all at the No. 1 singles position. Velicka, a two-time All-Big 12 singles player, became OU’s first singles competitor in the NCAA Tournament since Dusty Beard in 2000.
