NORMAN, Okla. - Andrei Daescu was defeated by Clancy Shields of Boise State, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, in the opening round of the Men's Singles NCAA Championships.  The loss ends the sophomore's season.

"Andrei had an exceptional season and he should be proud of how he represented himself and the University of Oklahoma," head coach Paul Lockwood said.

The Bucharest, Romania, native compiled a 28-12 record on the season, while holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Sooners.  Daescu also competed at No. 1 doubles for OU and teamed up with Federico Chavarria to finish with a season record of 14-7.

"Myself and our entire team look forward to what we have coming back next year and we are excited about the future of our program," Lockwood continued.

Daescu was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 singles team and Chavarria and Daescu were also named to the All-Big 12 doubles team.
