SALT LAKE CITY, Utah Two Sooners will represent Oklahoma on Friday in the round of 16 in the ITA Central Regional, hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Irina Lykina and Gabby Baker advanced to the second round of the main draw singles, while Christi Baxley lost in the first round and will compete in the consolation singles event.
Lykina defeated Denver's Annette Aksdal, 6-2, 6-1, in straight sets. She will face Jessica Vanderdys of Colorado on Friday.
Baker struggled in her first set against Fresno State's Vlatka Jovanovic and dropped a 6-2 decision, but she bounced back to win the last sets, 6-4, 6-2. Baker will compete against Tulsa's Santie Delport in second-round action.
Christi Baxley, who also competed in the first round, fell to Utah's Emily Kwok, 6-2, 6-3. She will face Torrie Browning of Wichita State in consolation singles on Friday.
In doubles action, both teams were eliminated after the second round of the main draw doubles. Baxley and Lykina defeated Northern Arizona's duo of Susan McClelland and Katie Schurr, 8-3, but lost to Katia Kudluckova and Tamara Kvaratshelia of Kansas State in the second round, 8-6. Baker and Chelsea Orr earned a bye in the first round but dropped the second round to the Kansas State team of Marta Perevoschikov and Jessica Simosa, 8-6.
Lykina and Baker will begin second-round play at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, while Baxley will begin at 10 a.m.
