NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's women's gymnastics team has elected senior Patricia Aoki and junior Leah Mueller as the team captain's for the upcoming season. Both were members of the 2002 squad, which was ranked as high as No. 3 in the country last year.

"Obviously I am pleased with the team's selections, " said OU Head Coach Steve Nunno. "I would have chosen Patricia and Leah. Patricia made a tremendous contribution athletically last season and this year I expect her to lead by example as possibly our most complete gymnast. Mueller is more talkative and I expect her to be the vocal leader. Which I feel gives us an excellent mix and two great leaders."

Both Mueller and Aoki are expected to compete as all-arounders this season. Mueller holds the OU record on vault with a perfect 10, which she set last season against Big 12 member Iowa State.

"Ironically both were injured at this point last season," said Nunno. "It compromised both of their seasons. This season they will be in the best shape of their careers and I expect the results to reflect that."

OU womens gymnastics begins its season Jan. 10 on ESPN in the Super Six Invitational with the likes of Georgia and defending national champion Alabama.
