Griffin, Warren Sweep Big 12 Awards

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's Blake Griffin and Willie Warren were named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, today for their performances in wins against Baylor and Texas Tech last week.
For Griffin, it marked his Big 12-record-tying fifth player-of-the-week honor this season. Warren's rookie-of-the-week accolade was his sixth of the year, tied for second most in Big 12 single-season history.
Griffin averaged 29.0 points and 16.5 rebounds as the Sooners dealt Baylor a 78-63 home loss and handled Texas Tech at home, 95-74. The 6-10, 251-pound sophomore forward shot .688 from the field and also averaged 1.5 assists. Against Tech, he registered his OU-record-setting 22nd double-double of the year with career highs of 40 points and 23 rebounds. It marked the first performance in Big 12 history of at least 40 points and 20 boards.
Griffin, who had double-doubles in each half against the Red Raiders, has three games of at least 20 points and 20 rebounds on the season. No other player in league history has recorded more than two in a career.
The national-player-of-the-year candidate leads the Big 12 in scoring (22.8 ppg), rebounding (14.2 rpg) and field goal percentage (.638), while ranking fourth in blocked shots (1.3 bpg). Nationally, Griffin ranks first in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage and ninth in scoring.
Warren, the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year, averaged 14.5 points and 4.0 assists last week while shooting .533 from the field and .846 from the free throw line (11-for-13).
On the season, Warren is averaging 14.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting .492 from the field, .370 from behind the arc and .783 from the free throw stripe. In OU's eight road games, the 6-4, 207-pound guard is averaging 19.1 points and 3.6 assists while shooting .538 from the field and .500 (22-for-44) from 3-point range.
The second-ranked Sooners, who own the nation's best record at 25-1, sit atop the Big 12 standings with an 11-0 league mark. They are off until playing at Texas on Saturday at 8 p.m. CST.
