NORMAN, Okla - The Oklahoma men's tennis team has been selected as one of 64 teams to participate in the NCAA Tournament and will begin first-round action against No. 19 South Carolina at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday, May 14.
The Sooners earned an at-large bid after finishing the season with a 15-6 overall record and a fifth-place tie in the Big 12 Conference. It marks OU's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1997.
"I am extremely proud of our team for what they have accomplished this year," head coach Paul Lockwood said. "In addition, the team has earned a spot to play in the NCAA Tournament and I couldn't be happier."
Oklahoma, currently ranked No. 51, will match up against No. 19 South Carolina, a squad that has produced an overall record of 18-9 and finished fourth in the Southeastern Conference.
"I feel good about our region," Lockwood said. "South Carolina is an outstanding team year in and year out and will be a tough SEC opponent. Their top-20 ranking reflects how good they are and I know our team is really looking forward to the challenge."
The other first-round match up in the region pits the No. 13 overall seed and tournament host Oklahoma State (21-6) against Southwest Missouri State (13-7).
The second round will be played Sunday, May 15 with the winners of both matches facing each other.
