SURPRISE, Ariz., -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team's season opener in Surprise, Ariz., has been postponed on Friday due to rain in the area.
The 2005 Coca-Cola Classic was slated to begin today with the Sooners battling Gonzaga at 4 p.m. (CST) at Surprise Stadium, the Spring Training home of Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals.
The Sooners will now play a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game at 1 p.m. (CST) at Texas-1, one of the Texas Rangers’ main practice fields situated right next to the main stadium. The second contest against Arizona State is slated for the original 5 p.m. (CST) start at Surprise Stadium. ASU will play South Alabama at noon on the main field.

Saturday's doubleheader is followed by Sunday's action versus South Alabama (noon, CST). The Arizona State and South Alabama games are set to be broadcast on the Sooners' new home on the radio, KOKC 1520 AM with play-by-play announcer Chuck Kelly with the call. The broadcasts will start 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Rain has been falling in Surprise since late Thursday and is expected to continue into Saturday with a high around 65. Sunday's forcast looks more promising with party cloudy skies and a high around 68.

OU will start the home portion of the 2005 schedule next weekend against Eastern Illinois. The three-game series will start on Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park at 1 p.m. and will be followed with games on Sunday (1 p.m.) and Monday (3 p.m.).
