NORMAN, Okla. -- One day after collecting Big 12 Coach of the Year honors and two Sooners being named to the All-Big 12 team, the OU soccer team racked up nine academic honors on Tuesday.

Senior Lauren Alkek, junior Michelle Alexander and sophomore Katharine Nutman were named to CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District VI second team while sophomore Dria Hampton was voted to the third team.

The four selections mark a program best, topping the three that were honored in 2007. OU has been represented on the academic all-district team in each of the last eight years and has multiple honorees in five of those seasons. Alexander was named to the third team a year ago.

In addition, Alexander, Alkek, Nutman and Hampton were also named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team along with senior Tiana Dickson. The five honorees marks the seventh straight season that OU has placed at least five student-athletes on the first team. Alkek and Dickson are three-time honorees while Alexander was named to the team for the second time in her career. Hampton and Nutman made their first appearance in 2010.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

On Monday, head coach Nicole Nelson was voted the Big 12 Co-Head Coach of the Year while Whitney Palmer (second team) and Caitlin Mooney (newcomer) were tabbed to the all-conference teams.

The Sooners, seeded fourth, will play in play in the first round of the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 3 against the No. 5 seed Texas. The game will be played at the Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, at 11:30 a.m.

Oklahoma defeated Texas on Oct. 24 in Austin by a 2-1 count in double overtime. It marked the Sooners' first win at Texas and also snapped a three-game losing streak in the series.

OU's only win in the Big 12 tournament came in 2000 against Texas. The Sooners are 0-5 since and have not advanced to the title game.
