NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior forward Whitney Palmer was selected to soccer’s All-Big 12 first team following her record-breaking campaign in 2009.  The selection was voted on by the league’s coaches and announced on Wednesday by the Big 12 office.

Palmer is the first Sooner selected to the first team since Lauren MacIver in 2005 and she is also one of three Sooners in program history to collect honors in three straight seasons (MacIver and Logan Womack).

The Plano, Texas, native broke the Sooners’ single-season goals record in 2009 with 15 and currently ranks eighth in the nation.  Her 32 points is also an OU single-season best and ranks 16th in the country.

Palmer started each of the Sooners’ 19 games in 2009 and led OU outright in goals scored for the third consecutive season, a program first.  In Big 12 games, she led the conference with eight scores and will return for her senior season in search of adding onto her five school records and six other top five marks.

“Getting her back for another year is a coach’s dream,” said OU Head Coach Nicole Nelson.  “Whitney is not only an incredible goal scorer and an incredible athlete, she is one of the hardest working and most talented players I have ever worked with.”

A member of the 2007 All-Big 12 Newcomer team and 2008 All-Big 12 second team, Palmer is second in OU history with 29 career goals and third with 61 points.  In addition, she ranks fourth with six game-winning goals and fifth with 165 shots.

Earlier this season, she tied school records with three goals scored against Tulsa and two assists against Sam Houston State.  Palmer also became the first player in OU history to score a goal in four straight games with consecutive scores against Texas, Texas A&M, Colorado and Texas Tech.
