NORMAN, Okla. - Former OU All-American Kiara Redmond has re-joined the Oklahoma women's gymnastics squad as team manager for the 2008-09 season. The appointment was announced today by head coach K.J. Kindler.
Redmond, one of the most decorated gymnasts in program history, completed her eligibility in May after earning All-America honors on vault, beam, floor and in the all-around at the 2008 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga.
"I'm extremely blessed in being able to continue my time with OU gymnastics," said Redmond. "I hope that I can give something back to a program that has given me so much over the last few years."
Her nine career All-America honors is the highest tally for a Sooner gymnast, besting two-time NCAA all-around title holder and Olympian Kelly Garrison's seven honors during the 1987 and 1988 seasons.
Redmond was named the 2008 Big 12 Gymnast of the Year after garnering All-Big 12 Honors on all four events, the only conference gymnast to do so. The Los Angeles, Calif., native took home event titles on floor (9.9) and vault (9.95), while leading Oklahoma to the 2008 Big 12 Championship title.
Winner of 44 event titles in '08, including 10 all-around titles, Redmond broke a conference record with seven Big 12 Gymnast of the Week honors last season.
