NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team is in first place after two rounds at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Sooners shot a first-round 302 and a tournament-low 293 in the second round for a two-round total of 595 (+35). OU is two strokes in front of Oklahoma State and Texas, who are tied for second place. The tournament is being held at the prestigious Southern Hills Country Club (7,016 yards, par 70).

OU was led by juniors Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) and Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) who both shot a two-round total of 149 (+9), putting them in a tie for sixth place. Manor came out strong by carding a first-round 73 (+3) while Flores had a solid second round with a 72 (+2).

OU junior Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) and freshman Jim Renner (Plainville, Mass.) are only one stroke behing Flores and Manor heading into the final round. Martin and Renner both had strong second rounds, shooting a 73 and 72, respectively, and finished in a tie for ninth place.

Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners was senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas), who carded a two-round total of 151 and is tied for 13th place.

OU's quest for its first Big 12 Championship begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Southern Hills Country Club.
