NORMAN, Okla. – After rain washed out play for the second day in a row Sunday, the University of Oklahoma women’s golf team finished in fifth place at the 11-team Texas A&M “Mo” Morial in Bryan, Texas.  The Sooners fired a 309 (+21) on Friday at the 6,255, par-72 Traditions Golf Club in a tournament that was reduced from 54 holes to 18.
“It’s disappointing that we couldn’t finish the tournament,” OU first-year head coach Veronique Drouin said about her team’s season opener.  “We were prepared to make up some ground today, but the weather did not cooperate.”
Host Texas A&M was declared the team winner with its first-round 290 (+2).  The Aggies were followed by Tulane at 297 (+9) and Tulsa at 299 (+11).  Texas A&M’s Sarah Beth Davis and Julia Boland earned co-medalist honors for carding 2-under-par 70’s.
Junior Ellen Mueller was OU’s top finisher after shooting even par on Friday.  She tied for third place, two strokes behind Davis and Boland.   It was Mueller’s fourth career top-five finish.
OU sophomore Brooke Collins posted a career-best eighth-place finish by firing a 75 (+3) with two birdies.
In her first collegiate action, freshman Aly Seng recorded an 81 (+9) to share 36th place with fellow Sooners Andrea Sellmeyer and Ryanne Elmer.
The Sooners compete next at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., hosted by the University of New Mexico, on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 19-20).
