NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma's women's gymnastics team held its annual Red-White Intrasquad on Sunday and the squad is now extremely encouraged after seeing its first competitive action of the season. The White team, consisting of senior co-captain Leticia Ishii, junior Christy Gerard, sophomores Kasie Tamayo and Leah Mueller, and freshmen Jessica Cole and Erin LaBarr, scored a 116.80 to edge the Red team's score of 116.25. The Red team was comprised of seniors Mariana Goncavles and Alison Mayberry, junior Patricia Aoki, sophomore Sarah Leis, and freshmen Angel Coleman, Allison Landis and Cathy Gribaudo.

Goncalves notched the highest all-around score at the intrasquad meet, a 39.25. She scored a 9.90 on vault, where she performed a Yurchenko full, an international level skill. She added a 9.90 on the uneven bars. Tamayo had an all-around score of 39.00, performing well on three events and having one minor slip-up on the balance beam.

"As a team, we scored one full point higher than we did in last year's Red-White scrimmage," said Head Coach Steve Nunno. "All the indications are there for us to have a much improved team this season. Our walk-ons and freshmen should provide us a huge boost. I'm very excited after seeing them in action this past weekend and we appreciate the good crowd support. We had a lot of fun."

OU's next action will come in the Maui Invitational on Fri., Jan. 4, against Michigan, Arizona and Sacramento State. The Sooners will kick off their home action on Jan. 20, when Big Ten power Ohio State visits the Lloyd Noble Center.
