NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team travels to Ardmore, to compete in The Maxwell Intercollegiate on May 11-12 (Saturday-Sunday) at Dornick Hills Country Club (par-10, 6,442 yards). The Sooners, ranked 14th in the May 10th edition of Golf World, are co-hosting the event with Oklahoma State and will be competing against an 11-team field that features No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 25 Tulsa, Arkansas, Colorado, Houston, North Texas, SMU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
OU will once again go with senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla), juniors John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) and Matt Cohn (La Jolla, Calif.) and sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) in the starting lineup. Sophomore Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) has been added to the mix and will be making his third start of the season. It's the first start for Manor since the Puerto Rico Classic back in February.
The Sooners are coming off a third-place finish in the Big 12 Championships in Hutchinson, Kan., on April 29-30. Kidwell turned in an outstanding performance firing a Big 12 Championship-record 64 in the first round of play and led the tournament after two rounds. He finished regulation in a first-place tie with Oklahoma State senior Anders Hultman and was defeated on the first hole of a playoff but still managed his best finish of his collegiate career with a score of 203 (-7).
Freeman also showed his ability by shooting a 66 in the second round to stand in second place after two rounds. The senior from Arnett, Okla., tied for fourth with a final score of 210 (E).
