NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's basketball team will begin practice for the 1999-2000 season at noon Saturday, Oct. 16, at Lloyd Noble Center. Before the Sooners hit the hardwood, Head Coach Sherri Coale will introduce the team and coaches at the men's basketball Baseline Bash on Friday, Oct. 15th.

Doors open at 9 p.m. for the Baseline Bash. The OU women's basketball players will be available for autographs and photo sessions starting at 10 p.m., followed by a team introduction at approximately 11:30 p.m. The event is expected to conclude at approximately 12:30 a.m.

Coale returns her starting five which includes LaNeishea Caufield, 1998-99 Freshman All-American, and senior Phylesha Whaley, 1999-2000 Preseason All-American. In addition, Coale returns sophomore Stacey Dales, who played on the 1999 Canadian National team that won the silver medal at the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Last year the Sooners returned to postseason action and earned their first winning record since 1994-95. OU ended the season ranked 27th in the nation in scoring, averaging 75.5 points per game, and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. The Sooners finished with a 15-14 record.

Oklahoma will host exhibition games on Nov. 8 and Nov. 13 before opening the 1999-2000 season against Arizona, Hawaii, and Tennessee Tech at the Hawaii Regent Tournament in Honolulu Nov. 19-21.
