Women's Golf Set to Compete in Austin

The Oklahoma women’s golf team is headed south of the border to compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational March 21-23 in Austin, Texas.  The No. 13 Sooners will play at the 6,247-yard, par-72 Hilss Country Club Golf Course.

Starters for the Sooners are senior Hope Edge, reigning Big 12 Golfer of the Month sophomore Amparo Gala, senior Lisa Meldrum, junior Emily Milberger and freshman Jaclyn Stelzer.  Freshman Alana Donaldson will also be competing as an individual for OU. 

The three-day event is formatted with 18 holes each day  and will feature nine top-25 teams.
The 18-team field includes No. 4 California, No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Arizona, No. 12 Southern California, No. 14 Tulsa, No. 19 Texas, No. 20 UNLV, No. 22 North Carolina, Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Northwestern, Oregon State, Purdue, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M and Texas Christian.

Oklahoma Finishes 12th in Florida
In its second spring-appearance, the OU women’s golf team finished in 12th place at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., March 7-9.  The Sooners finished with a tournament total of 954 while tournament-champion and No. 1-ranked Duke finished with a total of 878 (+38) to outpace the entire field by 33 strokes.
 
The competitive tournament featured nine teams ranked in the top-25, including seven of the top-10 individual golfers in the country.

 Senior Hope Edge was the top-finishing Sooner for the first time this season and finished tied for 16th with a total of 231 (+21).  Freshman Alana Donaldson played as an individual and tied with fellow sophomore Amparo Gala for 49th with three-round totals of 239 (+29).  
Senior Lisa Meldrum earned a tournament total of 241 (+31) to tie for 57th.  Junior Emily Milberger tied for 63rd with a tournament total of 243 (+33) while sophomore Cathryn Uselton earned 82nd place with a 257 (+47).

Alana Donaldson:
  Competing as an individual in her third career tournament ... Broke all career-bests at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational to finish tied for 49th with a 239 ... Averaging 80.3 strokes per round.

Hope Edge:  Top-finishing Sooner for the first time this season at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational where she tied for 16th with a 231 ... In the spring-opening Lady Puerto Rico Classic recorded a 222 to tie for 13th ... Earned best finish of the season after placing fifth with a 221 at Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate ... Ownes a 75.6 scoring average.

Amparo Gala:  February Big 12 Golfer of the Month ... Recorded a 239 to tie for 49th at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational ... Top-finishing Sooner at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic where she earned eighth-place honors with a career-low 220 ...   Averaging 75.8 strokes per round

Lisa Meldrum:  Leading all Big 12 golfers in stroke average ... Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September ... Currently ranked as the No. 13 golfer in the nation according to Golfweek ... Finished in the top five of every fall tournament ... Carded a 241 to tie for 57th at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational ... Tied for 25th with a 226 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in February ...  Averaging a team-low 73.8 strokes per round.

Emily Milberger:   Tied for 63rd with a 243 at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational ... Shot a 221 and tied for ninth place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic ... Tied for 18th in Las Vegas Showdown with a 224 ... Set season-bests at the Kent Youel Invitational after carding a three-round 222 to tie for fifth place  ... Carded a 226 and tied for 17th at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate ... Recorded a 229 and tied for 11th at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate ...  Averaging 76.1 strokes per round.

Jaclyn Stelzer:  First tournament appearance since last fall ... Placed 64th after shooting a 241 in Las Vegas Showdown ... Carded a career-low 73 at the Kent Yuoel Invitational and finished tied for 40th with a 233 ... Recorded a 229 and finished tied for 29th at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate where she also shot two hole-in-ones in the practice round ... In her first collegiate action, tied for 28th with a total of 234 at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate ... Averaging 78.5 strokes per round.
