TEMPE, Ariz. - University of Oklahoma sophomore Michelle Gascoigne threw the seventh perfect game in Oklahoma program history as the Sooners downed Appalachian State 8-0 in five innings Friday afternoon at the Kajikawa Classic. Gascoigne struck out eight and threw just 51 pitches, 41 of those registering as strikes.
Jessica Shults led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs batted in. Chana'e Jones went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one walk. Leadoff batter Brianna Turang went 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Dani Dobbs drove in two runs on a 1-for-2 showing.
The Sooners led 2-0 after the third inning and broke out to score three runs each in the fourth and fifth to force the run-rule. Oklahoma tallied 11 hits in the one hour, 10 minute contest.
