Oklahoma Women's Gymnastics Place Third In The Big 12 Championships

AMES, Iowa - The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team earned a third-place spot behind Iowa State (196.775) and Nebraska (196.750) in the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa, tonight. OU finished with a score 195.550, while Missouri placed fourth (194.375). The Sooners have finished third at the Big 12 meet in four of the past five seasons (1996, 1998, 1999), placing second in 1997.

Senior Ginger Russell led the Sooners with a second-place finish in the all-around (39.300) behind Iowa State's Betsy Hamm (39.600). OU's Amber McCracken followed with third place with a score 39.275.

McCracken tied Hamm, NU's Julie Houk and ISU's Sissy Huey for first place on the uneven parallel bars with a score 9.925. The win gave McCracken her seventh bars title of the season. McCracken also tied teammate Leticia Ishii for third place on the floor exercise with a score 9.900 and picked up a third-place finish on the vault (9.875). Russell was the only other Sooner to place in an event's top three by tying for third on the balance beam (9.850) with ISU's Kelli More and NU's Laura Goss and Nicole Wilkinson.
