Bell and Carson Post NCAA Marks In Sooner Track and Field's Season Opener

NORMAN, Okla. - Seniors Staneshia Bell and Bambi Carson posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks to lead Oklahoma in the All Comers meet held at the Mosier Indoor Facility. Bell had a 7.44 in the 60-meter dash and Carson had a 48-10.75 in the shot put to beat the NCAA provisional standard. It marked the season opener for the Sooner track and field team.

LaBoris Bean set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles and several other Sooners registered personal bests in the meet.

NCAA automatic qualifying marks were posted by Florence Ezeh of SMU in the weight throw with a 68-2.25 and Libor Charfreitag, also of SMU, with a 73-4.5 in the weight throw. NCAA provisional marks were posted by April Steiner of Arkansas in the pole vault (12-5) and Maria LeJour of Arknsas in the shot put (49-1.75).

The Sooners will send some competitors to the KSU Combined next Saturday while the rest of the team will take a break until the next competition in January. OU will host the OU Classic on Jan. 20 while the pole vaulters will travel to the Reno Summit Jan. 19-20.
