NORMAN, Okla. It took a seventh inning rally, but the No. 12 Oklahoma softball team earned its first win of the season after defeating Kentucky, 4-3, in its second game of the UNLV Alexis Resort Kickoff Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., Friday afternoon.
With the Sooners down one run heading into the seventh inning, freshman Jessica Legendre gave the Sooners a boost with her first career hit. Legendre’s single sparked the Sooner lineup as junior Norrelle Dickson also singled to left field to score Legendre and tie the game.
Sophomore Savannah Long gave the Sooners their first lead of the game with her game-winning double that towered towards right field to score Dickson and give Oklahoma the 4-3 lead.
The Wildcats were the first to get on the scoreboard and scored all three of their runs in the third inning after Kentucky’s Brooke Marnitz homered to lead off the inning.
Freshman hurler Morgan Hudsonpillar earned her first career win after throwing a complete game and only allowing three runs on six hits and recording three strikeouts.
