NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma softball fans will get the opportunity for an early glimpse of the Sooners when they hit the field in Norman in two weeks for the fall portion of their schedule. OU is slated to play six games at the OU Softball Complex between Sept. 24 and Oct. 11.
“The fall is extremely important for us,” head coach Patty Gasso said. “This year we have a large group of freshman who can really make an impact so it’s going to be beneficial for them to learn a lot this fall. Our main focus is to figure out what areas we can work on so we are better prepared during the regular season.”
OU’s annual Fall Festival will highlight the home portion of the schedule. The Sooners will play in four games over the two-day tournament set for Sept. 24-25. The home opener is against Southern Nazarene (SNU) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at the OU Softball Complex. Following the SNU match up, OU will take on Washburn at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday action at the Fall Festival will feature another Sooner doubleheader. OU will match up with Eastern at 2:30 p.m. and finish the second half of the twin bill when it faces Northwestern Oklahoma State (NWOS) at 4:45 p.m.
For the second straight year the Fall Festival is being played on a bye football weekend, allowing Sooner fans a great opportunity to catch a look at the softball squad.
The Sooners will also play two additional games at the Oklahoma Softball Complex. OU will host Seminole State on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. and wrap up the home portion of the fall schedule with a Tuesday, Oct. 11 contest against Northwestern at 4 p.m.
Rounding out the fall season, Oklahoma will travel to Houston Oct. 14-15 for the Spring Klein College Classic.
The Sooners will begin team practice this Monday, Sept. 12 in preparation for fall season action. This year’s squad will feature six newcomers and 13 returnees from a 2005 squad that produced a 50-17 overall mark and set a school record with a 29-game winning streak.
