NORMAN, Okla. -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have named Oklahoma gymnast Haley DeProspero to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District at-large team.
DeProspero's selection to the second team marks the third consecutive season that an OU gymnast has garnered CoSIDA All-District distinction as former Sooner Brittney Koncak-Schumann earned the award in 2006 and 2007.
An All-Big 12 Team Member during the regular season and at the conference championship, DeProspero played an integral role in Oklahoma's success as a junior, helping the squad to OU's first conference title since 2004 and a program-best-tying eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
The 2008 Big 12 beam champion, DeProspero helped Oklahoma made its mark atop the record book for wins (28), consecutive victories (21), wins to start a season (21), regular season winning percentage (1.000), home winning percentage (.917) and regular-season road winning percentage (1.000) as the Sooners were the only team in the country to record an undefeated regular season.
Winner of nine beam titles in 2008, the Zoology / Pre-Med major was named First-Team Academic All-Big 12 for the second consecutive season after earning a 3.67 GPA during the 2007 school year.
Outside of the gym, the McKinney, Texas, native joined her teammates in community service efforts around the Norman area including Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House, Race for the Cure, Special Spectators and USA Gymnastics Special Olympics.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District at-large team is made up of student-athletes from all NCAA sports except football, men's and women basketball, baseball, softball and men's and women's track. Those sports have their own Academic All-America teams in the CoSIDA program.
Nominated by members of CoSIDA, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic eligibility, be a starter or key reserve and have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average to be considered for the team. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and transfer students who are in their first year at the institution are not eligible for the team.
