NORMAN, Okla. - OU senior Stephanie Webb was one of 10 student-athletes named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District Women's Spring At-Large team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Webb, who has a 4.0 grade point average in mechanical engineering, was named to the Big 12 All-Academic team last week.
Webb was one of three Big 12 student-athletes named to the first team and one of only two to record a perfect 4.00 grade point average. Her name will now appear on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Webb was a leader for the Sooner cross country and track distance squads. Webb had a career best in the 5000-meter run on Saturday at the Big 12 Championship. She also posted the best time on the team in the indoor 3000-meter run and the outdoor 3000-meter run. She had the second best 1500-meter time on the team as well.
An honors scholar at OU, she was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree in track and earned Academic All-Big 12 honors in cross country three times. A multi-time Dean's and President's Honor Roll selection, Webb was named as a Phillips 66 Classroom Champion and has been on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll eight times.
It marks the third academic honor for Webb in recent weeks. Last month, she was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, a national honorary which recognizes academic excellence in all disciplines. Honorees must be in the top 10 percent of their class as senior or graduate students or in the top five percent of their class as last semester juniors.
