NORMAN, Okla. -- Sophomore forward Caitlin Mooney was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for games played from Oct. 8-10. It marks the first career honor for Mooney, who transferred from the University of Maryland after helping the Terrapins to Sweet 16 in 2009.
The Edmond, Okla., native had her best two-game performance at OU over the weekend with two goals and an assist as the Sooners swept a pair of matches last weekend.
Mooney scored one of the Sooners' program-record eight goals on Friday in an 8-0 win over Francis Marion and also chipped in an assist.
On Sunday at Kansas, Mooney helped OU put away the game, scoring the final goal in the 3-1 win.
In her first season in Norman, Mooney ranks second among all Sooners with five goals after posting four as a freshman at Maryland a year ago. Mooney also ranks second on the 2010 club with 11 points and her assist on Friday night was her first of the year. In the last five games, Mooney has scored three of the Sooners' 19 goals en route to a 4-1 record.
OU's next game is on Thursday, Oct. 14 against Nebraska at 7 p.m. in Norman. The Huskers (11-4, 4-2) sit one game ahead of the Sooners in third place in the Big 12 standings.
On Sunday, Oct. 17, OU concludes the home stand against the Colorado Buffaloes (6-7-1, 2-3-1) at 1 p.m.
