Head Coach Sherri Coale
On the game:
"I'm proud of my team. They came out fresh and had a lot of energy. They played very hard and I'm not surprised. I credit that to a group of seniors who know the object of this whole game. They know why we work in the summer, why we run in August and why you duke it out in January and February in the Big 12."
On the importance of the game:
" I think, for anybody who knows our team, there are things that aren't always necessarily important, but they always matter. How you play matters. It doesn't matter what is on the line. That's the way we approach everything we do."
On Texas and Kansas State:
They're completely different teams. Texas is physical and very post-oriented. While Kansas State has a great post player and is very much a finesse team. The way they defend is completely different. I don't really have a preference as to which one we see again. They will both be very prepared and have a lot on the line. It will be a tough game, whoever it is."
Stacey Dales, Senior Guard
On beginning the game successfully:
"In the first game of the tournament, I feel like its important to set the tone early. We initiated things well and I thought we were well prepared."
On her scoring early:
"I felt a sense of urgency, to start quickly and to set a tempo. Leadership is contagious and I felt as though I somewhat set a tone for our team and they followed."
On getting rest early in the tournament:
"Getting a lot of rest today and not having to play yesterday is very beneficial. I think it really helps to boost team morale and helps us stay fresh for the next game."
Dionnah Jackson, Freshman Guard
On the OSU/OU rivalry:
"Coach Coale said to just relax and play free, and not worry too much about the game being a rivalry."
On her impressive offensive stretch:
"I am playing with seniors that show great leadership. I just followed their lead and was successful."
Oklahoma State Quotes
Head Coach Dick Halterman
On the game:
"I really felt like we were ready to play. I felt like we were capable of competing with (Oklahoma), (like) we did at home, and we really did play well against them at their place. Sometimes, and we've had three or four of them throughout the year, where I felt the other team was just so focused. I think Oklahoma can win a national championship if they just play the way they played in the first five minutes of the game today. They shot the ball well, they took it to us offensively, they took it to us defensively, and I really felt like we were ready to play, we just couldn't respond to their defensive pressure."
On a possible bid to the WNIT:
"(The team) was focused on the NCAA (tournament), and that was their goal. I'm not sure, if they got together as a group today, if the feeling would be the same, but nothing's been determined on it. For the most part, several of our kids felt that they didn't want to play in the WNIT and if that's their choice, we'll honor that. With me being gone, it is their choice and it's more about them than anything else."
On his last game as OSU's head coach:
"In 28 years, I've probably sat through five of these (kind of games). You just feel like you want to find a place to hide. You feel like you haven't gotten your kids ready to play and at a certain point in time, when you know you're not going to be able to make a run, you just want to get those kind of games over with. I don't really fault our kids. I don't think anyone could've answered Oklahoma today the way they came out (and played) because I really felt like when we got out onto the floor, we were ready to play. I think (Oklahoma's) talent really showed today."
On Stacey Dales:
"Stacey isn't known to be a great three-point shooter, but she got two or three (three-pointers) early and Shelby (Hutchens) is a great defender, she just didn't have an answer today for her at all. I just give the credit to Stacey more than our kids doing a poor job on her. (Stacey) just knows where she wants to go right now."
Shelby Hutchens, Junior Guard
"They came out on fire. Their defense was smothering. We weren't taking care of the ball, we weren't able to get it down low. When those things happen, you get the result we did."
Tari Cummings, Senior Forward
On Stacey Dales:
"She got them off to a good start. She is a great player."
On the possibility of a WNIT bid:
"We have talked previously about that as a team. Right now, I'm not sure our response to such an offer would be a positive response."
