WICHITA, Kan. -- Freshman Tara Dunn turned in a performance for the ages but it wasn't enough as the 22nd-ranked University of Oklahoma volleyball team fell to Wichita State in five sets Wednesday evening. The Sooners (9-3) won the first two sets 27-25 and 25-23 but dropped the final three 18-25, 27-29 and 13-15. The almost two-and-a-half hour match had 41 ties and 14 lead changes.

Dunn had a match-high 29 kills and recorded her first career double-double with 15 digs. Dunn's 29 kills were the most for a Sooner in a single match since Christina Maynes had 30 against Missouri on Nov. 15, 2003.

In addition to setting an Oklahoma single match record for kills during the 25-point rally scoring era, Dunn set a rally scoring match record (both eras) in attempts (85). Dunn committed just two attack errors to hit .318.

Sallie McLaurin also added 12 kills and led the Sooners with four block assists. Brianne Barker and Caitlin Higgins added seven kills each, while Suzy Boulavsky, Morgan Reynolds and Grace Whitley had six each.

Barker had 56 assists, just short of her career high of 58 set last season. She registered her seventh double-double of the year with a season-high 22 digs. Maria Fernanda had 34 digs, one short of her career high of 35 also set last year. Mindy Gowen had a career-high 21 digs and Higgins added a season-high 13 digs.

Oklahoma set single match records for attempts (235) and digs (113) and tied the record for kills (73) and assists (67).

Emily Adney led the Shockers with 22 kills as one of four Wichita State players to post double-digit kills. Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 64 assists, and Sarah Waldorf had 33 digs as one of five players with double-digit digs. WSU out-blocked OU 13.0-5.0.

The Sooners close out non-conference action this weekend with the Oklahoma Invitational. OU opens against Texas Southern Friday at 2 p.m. CT and takes on Arkansas-Little Rock Friday evening at 7 p.m. CT. The Sooners close out the tournament Saturday at noon against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and at 7 p.m. CT against Boise State.
