AMES, Iowa — A small group of Oklahoma athletes closed out the regular season portion of the 2011 schedule Saturday at the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier in Ames, Iowa. Scottesha Miller won the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 23.69 while the quartet of Eric Bailey, Daniel Nix, Trayvion Jones and Remuro Henry finished ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:09.06. On Friday pole vaulter Alexandra Acker finished sixth at the Arkansas Last Chance.
Oklahoma athletes now await Monday for the NCAA’s announcement of the field for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. A minimum of 14 entries in each individual event and 10 entries in each relay are guaranteed. The NCAA limits each men’s and women’s field to a maximum of 284 athletes. Seven Oklahoma athletes have already combined for eight NCAA automatic qualifying marks this season.
Miller won her third individual title of the season and the first at the 200-meter distance but failed to improve her season-best mark of 23.56 and No. 26 national rank in the event. While Miller may not qualify for the NCAA championships in the event, the Big 12 champion in the 60-meter dash has automatically qualified for event.
The 4x400-meter relay of Bailey, Nix, Jones and Henry ran the second-fastest relay by an Oklahoma group this season behind the 3:08.89 run by Bailey, Henry, Mookie Salaam and Nix at the Big 12 Championships. Entering the weekend the time ranked ninth nationally.
Acker cleared a height of 12-8.00 (3.86) Friday night in Fayetteville, Ark., as she finished sixth overall. Acker entered the weekend ranked 24th nationally with a height of 13-6.00 (4.12).
