NORMAN, Okla.-- The No. 31 University of Oklahoma women’s golf team lost 6-5 to No. 16 Oklahoma State in an exciting Bedlam Cup exhibition match play event Sunday at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman.

In the final group of the day, OSU's Jayde Panos drained a six-foot putt on the 18th hole for a bogey to preserve a 1-up lead over OU's Taylor Schmidt and give the Cowgirls the victory. Had Panos missed the putt, all 16 competitors (eight from each team) would have played a tiebreaker hole.

The Bedlam Cup, which pitted OU versus OSU in dual competition for the first time since 1977, featured morning and afternoon sets of matches. In the morning, three duos from each school participated in an alternate-shot competition, with the Sooners taking two of the three matches. The afternoon competition was comprised of eight one-on-one matches. OSU won four to OU's two, while the other two matches finished all square.

“Today was a lot of fun and it came down to the wire, which made it really exciting for everyone,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “It was good to have the girls in pressure situations before the Big 12 tournament. It was great preparation for us and it was a great confidence builder for postseason play that is coming up this week.”

The Sooners were ahead after the morning matches with Emily Collins and Taylor Schmidt posting a 1-up win over OSU’s Jayde Panos and Lauren Falley, and Anne-Catherine Tanguay and Jacki Marshall carding a 4-and-3 victory over Josephine Janson and Courtney Ferguson. Sooners Chirapat Jao-Javanil and Jade Staggs fell 2 and 1 to OSU's Kelsey Vines and Hillary Wood.

The afternoon matches were tight and included a lot of back-and-forth. In the first two matches, Oklahoma State got 1-up wins from Lauren Falley and Courtney Ferguson over OU's Viktoria Lager and Brooke Collins, respectively. The next foursome produced one and a half points for OU's Jacki Marshall and Jade Staggs. Marshall beat Josephine Janson 3 and 1 while Staggs sank a 30-foot putt to win the 18th hole and salvage an all-square outcome against Hillary Wood.

The Cowgirls got a big point from Amy Ruegmateekhun, who won the 18th hole to post a 1-up victory over OU's Chirapat Jao-Javanil. In the same foursome, Sooner Emily Collins came back from a 3-and-3 deficit by winning each of the final three holes against Jocelyn Alford. Collins and Alford each earned a half of a point for finishing all square.

OU's Anne-Catherine Tanguay posted her second win of the day by beating Kelsey Vines 2 and 1, setting the stage for the Schmidt-Panos showdown on the 18th hole.

The Sooners start postseason play Friday through Saturday (April 27-29) at the Big 12 Championship in Lawrence, Kan.
