NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 25 Nebraska Cornhuskers shut out Oklahoma, 1-0, on a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon in front of 190 hardy fans at the Abbott Sports Complex in Lincoln, Neb.

With the loss, the Sooners dropped their fourth straight Big 12 game and fell to 11-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Nebraska rebounded from a Friday night loss to Oklahoma State to improve to 10-5-4 overall and 5-3-1 in the Big 12.

NU senior Christine Latham scored what would be the game-winning goal with just over a minute left before the halftime break from 25 yards out to put the Huskers up, 1-0.

"It was a lucky shot," Latham said. " I haven't really been shooting with my left foot, but you have to take shots in weather like this because bounces happen."

Several bounces didn't go the Sooners' way.

Junior midfielder Jessica Talton (Broken Arrow, Okla.) took OU's only shot on goal of the first half and the ball nearly slid through the wet hands of Husker keeper Erin Miller but Nebraska escaped without allowing the score. NU took 11 shots to just three for OU in the first period.

The teams battled into the second half with Nebraska maintaining the 1-0 lead. With just two and a half minutes left in the game, Oklahoma senior Krissy Dawson (Peoria, Ariz.) got a shot at the NU box off a corner kick but Miller made a diving save to seal the victory for Nebraska.

OU freshman Lauren MacIver (Tulsa, Okla.) took a team-high five shots with Krissy Dawson and Logan Womack (Norman, Okla.) trailing with three each. Senior forward Shannon Wing (Broken Arrow, Okla.) had two shots, both on goal, but no Sooner could break the scoreless drought.

Oklahoma trailed Nebraska 27-15 in shots (12-5 on goal) for the game. OU keeper Catherine Wade (Midland, Texas) recorded 10 saves to five for Nebraska's Miller.

Oklahoma, still tied with the 2001 team with a school-record 11 wins, wraps up the 2002 regular season in Stillwater in the Bedlam game with Oklahoma State on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
