NORMAN, Okla. - The 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team recorded a shutout for the second straight day as the Sooners downed Kansas 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. Oklahoma's offense recorded 12 hits and manufactured all seven runs on base hits. Oklahoma moves to 39-10 on the year and 13-3 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks fell to 19-32 overall and 1-15 in conference action.
Freshman Michelle Gascoigne (7-0) threw her fourth complete game of the season and second shutout. Gascoigne fanned 10 batters and allowed just two hits and two walks.
The Sooners plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Amber Flores drew her fifth walk of the series and moved to second a bloop single to center field by Jessica Shults. Lindsey Vandever singled to right field to score Flores and Shults scored on a Haley Nix single up the middle.
Back-to-back singles by Dani Dobbs and Karolyne Long gave Oklahoma two runners aboard with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. The pair scored on a double to right center by Haley Anderson. Anderson then scored on a Flores single up the middle.
Vandever scored Flores on a double to center and following a KU pitching change, Nix walked on four straight pitches to load the bases. Pinch hitter Wendy Trott then drew a walk to bring in Shults for the seventh run of the game.
Shults ended the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks. Flores went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Oklahoma closes out the regular season Thursday evening. The Sooners travel to Denton, Texas for a 6 p.m. matchup against North Texas. The game can be heard locally on KREF 1400 AM.
