OU Wrestling Team Places Five On Academic All-Big 12 Team

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team had five members make the Academic All-Big 12 team as announced by the Big 12 offices on Tuesday. Seniors Witt Durden and Robbie Waller and sophomore Wes Roberts were named to the first-team, while senior Brad Knecht and sophomore Danny Rubenstein were named to the second-team.

Durden, who currently holds an 18-4 record at 133 pounds, was honored as a second-team Academic All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association in 2001. Waller has a 174-pound record of 25-6 and needs just three wins to reach 100 career victories. First-year 165-pound starter Wes Roberts, a finance major, currently has a record of 15-15.

Sooner senior Brad Knecht has a 6-10 record at 125 pounds from open tournaments and 149-pound sophomore Danny Rubenstein, a management information systems major, took over the starting position in February to amass a 6-14 record.

Wrestlers had to maintain a 3.2 cummulative GPA or maintain that standard for the previos two semesters and either be a senior or compete in 60 percent of the team's competition to be named to the first-team. Second-team members were required to maintain a 3.0 GPA with the same participation requirements as first-team members.
