NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's gymnastics program is excited to announce the newest member of its squad, Jessica Cole of Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tenn. Cole is an all-around gymnast who has competed for the Knoxville Gymnstics Training Center under the guidance of coach Adam Byrd.
Cole was a national team alternate during her senior year of high school, and lists her best events as the vault and the uneven bars. She was also recruited by Michigan State and Arizona, however the relationships she built with head coach Steve Nunno and assistant coach Nilson Savage played a major role in her decision to attend OU.
"I liked everything about Oklahoma when I went on my visit," said Cole. "The girls on the team seemed really great and the whole environment was exactly what I was looking for. I liked the weather and the people there seem so nice. I really like Coach Nunno and I'm excited about being a Sooner."
Nunno is equally excited about Cole's future with the team.
"I think Jessica is a fantastic all-around gymnast," said Nunno. "She might have been overlooked by a lot of schools, including us at first, but she's going to come in, prove herself and earn every bit of her scholarship. She's very hungry and is more excited than anyone to compete collegiately for the University of Oklahoma."
In addition to excelling in gymnastics, Cole was an honors student and a varsity swimmer for Farragut High during her four years there.
