LAS VEGAS - After seeing Boise State rally to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning, the 13th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team rebounded for an 8-4 victory Saturday morning at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. The Sooners (6-1) led 4-0 early but saw the Broncos (1-7) rally back to gain momentum until senior Lindsey Vandever belted her second home run of the season to give OU a one-run lead. OU tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Haley Nix home run.
Vandever's home run came in the fifth inning after the Sooners gave four runs in the top half to see the lead disappear. With two outs, Vandever connected on a 0-1 pitch and pounded it over the center field wall to regain the edge for the Sooners.
The Sooners put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first when sophomore Chana'e Jones reached on an error and scored on a two-out home run by freshman Jessica Shults. OU added two more runs in the second when Jones doubled to left center to score Nix and sophomore Karolyne Long. After the Broncos answered with four runs in the top frame of the fifth, Vandever answered back in the bottom half of the inning with the solo shot to put the Sooners up 5-4. Nix added her second home run of the season, a three-run shot scoring juniors Krystle Huey and Haley Anderson.
The Sooners face 12th-ranked Cal at 3:30 p.m. CT at Eller Media Stadium in Las Vegas.
