Sooners Host the Mavericks

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma men’s tennis team returns to action Sunday, April 17 looking to continue its three-match winning streak when they host Texas-Arlington at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The match will begin at 12 p.m. and admission is free. OU owns a 5-3 all-time series record against the Mavericks.

The Sooners enter the match 16-3 while UTA is 9-9. Texas-Arlington has lost three in a row, but six of their nine losses were the result of a 4-3 decision. UTA has gone 4-1 in Southland Conference play, trailing only to 21st-ranked Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Islanders blanked the Mavericks, 7-0, when the two teams faced off.

Out in front for Oklahoma is 43rd-ranked sophomore Marek Velicka. Velicka has won four singles matches in a row, owning a stellar 15-4 singles record and has winning 15 of his last 17 matches.

OU faced UTA twice in the spring of 2004, the Sooners won both duals with the Mavericks.

Oklahoma is 8-1 at home this season. The Sooners only loss at OU Headington was to No. 15 Texas A&M. OU had opportunitites to win the match, but suffered a 4-3 loss. The Sooners rebounded the very next day by winning the Red River rivalry and beating No. 27 Texas, 4-3.
