NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a final-round 295 to finish in ninth place at the Ping/Golfweek Preview Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course (7,239 yards, par 71) on Sunday. The Sooners finished with a total score of 882 (+30). Clemson took home the team championship finishing one stroke ahead of Wake Forest.
OU was led by senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.), who tied for ninth place. Freeman was only four shots off the lead shooting a final-round 72 to finish with an overall score of 214 (+1). It was the seventh top-10 finish of his career as a Sooner and the first of this season.
Junior Parker Foster (Tulsa, Okla.) and senior J.D. Robertson (Little Rock, Ark.) each tied for 37th with total scores of 223. Foster finished out the tourament with a 74, while Robertson shot a 78.
Two shots back was junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas), who finished out the final round with a 75 to tie for 52nd and sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) rounded out the scoring for OU with a 74 to tie for 64th.
Twelve of the 15 teams participating in the tournament finished among the top 15 teams in the country last season at the NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C. In Columbus, Oklahoma finished well ahead of several teams who finished in the top 10 last season inlcuding Arizona (3rd), Georgia Tech (4th), Arizona State (6th), Augusta State (7th) and East Tennessee State (9th).
Next week (Oct. 8-9), the Sooners travel to the Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, for the 14th-annual Taylor Made Red River Classic.
