OU Wrestling Team Defeats Nebraska, 20-15

NORMAN, Okla. - The 12th-ranked Oklahoma wrestling team defeated conference foe Nebraska, 20-15, tonight in the Howard McCasland Field House in front of a crowd of 568. The Sooners bounced back from losses to Michigan State (24-14) and Missouri (25-20) to defeat the Huskers for their second conference win. Oklahoma extended its all-time series win streak to 34-11-1.

"I couldn't be more impressed and proud of this team," said Head Coach Jack Spates. "This was a huge win for senior night and our last home dual of the season. I am proudest of this team and the way they wrestled and battled back."

Oklahoma began the dual with a win at 125 pounds when senior Bo Maynes defeated All-American Jason Powell by a 7-3 decision. Maynes broke Powell's eight-match win streak. Oklahoma also landed a huge victory at 133 pounds when senior Witt Durden scored a major decison over Nebraska's No. 18 Joey Malia, 10-2. Oklahoma's Teyon Ware shut-out Dusty Spaulding at 141 pounds with a 7-0 decision.

The Sooners gave up their first points of the dual in the 149-pound battle when sophomore Danny Rubenstein lost a close 10-7 decision to Travis Shufelt. OU's Rafael Maturino brought the Sooner score to 13-3 with a win at 157 pounds. Maturino decisioned Nate McMillin, 10-5.

The Huskers came back at 165 pounds when OU sophomore Wes Roberts fell to Jacob Klein, 6-3. Oklahoma received a big win when No. 5 Robbie Waller defeated No. 10 Travis Pascoe in a 6-2 decision. Senior Josh Lambrecht, who hasn't wrestled since the National Duals, scored the 8-0 major decision over B.J. Padden at 184-pounds. Nebraska received bonus points at 197 pounds when No. 3 Justin Ruiz pinned Oklahoma's unranked Derrick Brown at 3:25. Nebraska also claimed a hard fought heavyweight match, when Oklahoma's Jake Hager was defeated by Mitch Manstedt, 7-2

Oklahoma will return to the mat when they travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State on Feb. 16, at 2 p.m.
