OU Women's Gymnastics To Face Iowa State Sunday

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics teams will host eighth-ranked Iowa State this Sunday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. The Big 12 rival matchup is set to begin at 2 p.m. The women's team enters weekend competition posting a 6-1 overall season record and is 0-1 in Big 12 action. Oklahoma's women lead the OU/ISU series 16 to four.

In their first meeting with the Cyclones last season, the Sooners defeated ISU, 194.275 to 192.300, by taking first in three events. Senior Ginger Russell dominated the competition as she won the all-around with a score 38.900, as ISU's Shelly Kringen (38.850) and Jessy Smith (38.500) followed for second and third-place honors. Russell won the floor exercise (9.875) and placed second on the beam (9.850).

Oklahoma lost its second meeting of the 1999 season to Iowa State after placing third (194.675) behind the Cyclones' score 195.650 at the Big 12 Championships. ISU's Tanya "Sissy" Huey earned a third-place finish in the all-around, while Russell finished in the No. 6 all-around spot. Senior Amber McCracken led ISU in the vault and uneven parallel bars as she earned fourth in the vault (9.850) and edged Huey for the title in the bars competition with a score 9.875.

Iowa State, 3-3 overall this year, dropped its second conference loss of the season to Nebraska. ISU fell to No. 7 NU Tuesday night, 196.600-192.250.

Oklahoma will also honor its seniors at the close of the OU/ISU competition.
