OU Men's Golfers Set For Red River Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team continues its 2001-02 season on Oct. 8-9 (Mon.-Tue.) as the Sooners travel to Dallas, Texas, to compete in the Taylor Made Red River Classic at the Dallas Athletic Club.

Included among the field are: Arizona, BYU, Duke, Houston, Kent State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, defending champion Southern California, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and Washington.

The Sooners posted a top-five finish last season in Dallas finishing fourth with a score of 857.

Practice rounds begin Sunday at 9 a.m. Tee times begin Monday morning at 8:15 with the final round beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Sooners Finish Ninth at Preview
Oklahoma is coming off a ninth place finish at the Ping/Golfweek Preview in Columbus, Ohio. The Sooners concluded the tournament with a total score of 882 (+30). OU senior Cody Freeman tied for ninth place and was only four shots off the lead. It was the seventh top-10 finish of his career as a Sooner and the first of the season.

OU Tied For Seventh by Golfworld
Golf World's College Golf Coaches' Poll ranked Oklahoma tied for seventh in its Oct. 5 issue. OU moved into the top 10 after previously being ranked 11th. The Sooners are tied with TCU, who was victorious at The Ridges Intercollegiate.

In other rankings , Golfstat has OU in 12th place while the Sooners are 17th in Golfweek. The Golfweek individual rankings have OU senior Cody Freeman in 53rd.

OU Staters For The Red River Classic

Martin Flores (So., Mansfield, Texas) - Making his 17th consecutive start for OU since the beginning of his freshman season...Tied for 64th at The Preview...Finished in third place at The Ridges Intercollegiate to lead all Sooners golfers...Shot his career low-round (67) in the first round and went on to post rounds 71 and 69 for a total of 207 (-9)...It was the second top-five finish of his career and fourth top-10 finish...Tied for 39th last season at the Red River Classic with a final score of 220 (+4).
