NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma men's basketball players Steven Pledger and Romero Osby have been named honorable mention selections on the All-Big 12 Conference Team, the league announced Sunday.
Both juniors, Pledger and Osby are OU's top two scorers this season. Pledger ranks sixth in the Big 12 in scoring with his 16.6 average and ranks third with his 2.5 3-point field goals per game. He also ranks sixth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.426) and free throw (.830) percentage, and seventh in field goal percentage (.464).
Pledger has scored in double figures in 25 of his 29 outings. The two-time Big 12 Player of the Week has scored at least 20 points eight times after doing it three times all of last year, and has netted at least 15 points on 10 other occasions. Pledger has already made 56 more field goals (168) in 29 games this year than he did in 32 games last season (112). The Chesapeake, Va., product ranks sixth in OU history with 178 career 3-point makes and 35th in scoring with 1,016 points.
Osby, a transfer from Mississippi State, is averaging 12.7 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting a team-best .486 from the field. The forward, who scored a career-high 24 points in Saturday's win over Texas A&M, is averaging 14.0 points in conference games. He ranks fourth in the Big 12 with seven double-doubles and ranks fifth in rebounding. From Meridian, Miss., Osby has scored in double figures in 13 of the last 17 games (scored nine points in each of the other four games).
Oklahoma is the No. 8 seed in this week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and will play No. 9 seed Texas A&M on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at Kansas City's Sprint Center. The game will be televised by the Big 12 Network.
