NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma men's tennis team has a full week ahead of them with matches against Oral Roberts on Wednesday, April 17, Nebraska on Saturday, April 20 and Texas Tech on Sunday, April 21. Match time with the Golden Eagles is set for 1:30 p.m at the ORU Tennis Complex in Tulsa, Okla. ORU is 8-12 on the season.

OU is 11-9 overall, 0-5 in the Big 12 Conference. The Sooners have lost three of the five league matches on the road against ranked opponents.Nebraska is ranked No. 62 and was 8-9 on the season heading into last weekend, 1-4 in league play. Texas Tech is ranked No. 70 and is 12-9 on the season, 2-3 in league play. The Sooners will face both teams at home this weekend at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center.

Oklahoma Goes 0-3, Dropping Two Matches at Home

Oklahoma went 0-3 last week, falling to Oklahoma State, No. 60 Colorado, and No. 9 Baylor. The Sooners were defeated by OSU, 4-3, on Wednesday, April 10, in Stillwater, Okla. OU fell to Colorado, 5-2, on Saturday, April 13, at the Oaktree Country Club in Edmond. Oklahoma was scheduled to play in Norman, but the match was moved indoors due to bad weather. The Sooners dropped their match to Baylor, 5-2, on Sunday, April 14 at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.

Leading the Sooners

Junior Chris Mitchell is 13-5 in No. 3, 4 and 5 singles play. The Jenks High School native has won four consecutive matches, and six of his last seven. Mitchell and junior Tobias Kronlein are 4-2 in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play.

Freshman Alex Nomicos sports a 13-6 record at No. 5 and 6 singles, while junior Matt Ogle is 11-4 in singles play, winning eight of his last nine matches. Sophomore Sebastien Revol and freshman Brad Prigmore are 8-5 at No. 3 doubles, while Prigmore and Ogle are 3-1 at the No. 3 spot.

Head Coach Paul lockwood

In his 15th year as the head men's tennis coach, Paul Lockwood is 11-9 on the season, with five of the nine losses coming on the road against ranked opponents. Lockwood has experienced success with his teams over the years both on and off the court. He has compiled a 218-140 (.608) overall record and claimed the Big Eight Conference title in 1992. Lockwood was named the Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1992 for his outstanding efforts.

For five consecutive seasons, dating back to 1996-97, Lockwood's teams have earned Academic ITA All-America honors to add to their list of accomplishments.

OU Headington Family Tennis Center

After more than three seasons without a home court, the men's tennis team now plays in the OU Headington Family Tennis Center, completed in October of 2001. The first match played in the new tennis center was on March 27 against Wichita State. The Sooners officially dedicated their new facility on April 13, prior to OU's match with Colorado. The Headington Family Tennis Center is comprised of 12 NCAA Championship courts, NCAA Championship lighting and permanent seating for 800 spectators.
