OU Mens Tennis Concludes First Day At Midland Invitational

Sooners prove a winner at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma junior Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) and junior Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) competed in main draw action Friday at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas.

In the first round of singles play, Tanasoiu cruised to a straight set victory over Boise State’s Ehren Vaughan,

6-0, 6-3. Gregg fell to SMU’s Lukasz Senczyszyn 6-2, 6-0. Tanasoiu then went on to compete against Baylor’s No. 5 seed Matija Zgaga and was defeated 6-3, 6-4. Gregg moved on to consolation competition and won a tough three-set victory over Texas Tech’s Esat Tanik, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6.

The first-time Sooner pair of Tanasoiu and Gregg claimed their first victory in doubles competition. The duo crushed Pepperdine’s Kevin Borzenski and Scott Doerner, 8-6. The doubles team was one of 15 pairs taking to the courts at the Midland Racquet Club on Friday, Oct. 17.

The Sooners will resume competition with singles action tomorrow at 9 a.m.
