NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma seniors Brianne Barker and Suzy Boulavsky were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Central Region first team the organization announced today. Sophomore Sallie McLaurin earned a spot on the All-Central Region honorable mention team.
“We are very excited we had three selections to the AVCA All-Central Region team,” said Oklahoma head coach Santiago Restrepo. “All three young ladies are well deserving of the honor. Sallie was exceptional at the net this year. She earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and has now been named honorable mention all-region as a sophomore.
“Suzy and Brianne finished their careers on a very high note earning all-region honors. It’s great to see them recognized for the hard work and dedication they’ve shown the last four years. We’re extremely happy for all three student-athletes.”
It marks the second consecutive first team honor for Barker and the first for Boulavsky. It is McLaurin’s first All-Region honor of her career.
Barker commanded OU to a .246 hitting percentage this year and averaged 10.43 assists per set. She was second on the team with 3.07 digs per set. She earned first team All-Big 12 honors and was a 2010 AVCA third team All-American. OU’s .246 hitting percentage was the second highest by a Sooner team under Restrepo, ranking just behind a .262 clip in 2006.
Boulavsky led the Sooners with 3.26 kills per set, hitting .291 on the year. Boulavsky averaged 0.77 blocks per set with 96 total. She also earned first team All-Big 12 honors.
McLaurin led the Big 12 in blocks on the year, averaging 1.35 per set. She dropped 25 block solos and 137 block assists during the regular season. McLaurin was All-Big 12 honorable mention and was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
