NORMAN, Okla. - The 31st-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated the University of Arizona, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

"I am pleased with the way things turned out today. I felt like our doubles were very good. When you win on all three courts that convincingly it helps with overall team confidence," OU head coach John Roddick said. "The singles today showed that we did a really good job of adjusting to a little bit of adversity and how this team overcame that."

The Sooners (5-2) jumped out to a 6-1 victory after OU took an early 1-0 lead over the Wildcats by winning all three doubles matches. Oklahoma continued the momentum to singles where they also won at the No. 2, 5, 4, 1 and 3 spots before Arizona struck and earned their only win of the day at the No. 6 spot.

In doubles, the Sooners' 10th-ranked pair, Dane Webb and Costin Paval, were first to finish after earning a win at No. 1 doubles. The tandem took down Arizona's Sumeet Shinde and Kieren Thompson, 8-1.

OU's Lawrence Formentera and David Pultr clinched the doubles point after the duo took down UA's Mario Urquidi and Carlos Bermudez, 8-4.

Tsvetan Mihov and Peerakit Siributwong, ranked No. 45, finished off the doubles sweep after they beat the Wildcat's Sebastian Ionescu and Giacomo Miccini at the No. 2 position, 8-3.

In singles action, OU won five matches, three of which were in straight sets to earn a 5-1 singles victory over Arizona.

OU's 84th-ranked Alcorta was the first to conclude in singles action. The Spanish native downed the Wildcats' Shinde at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0.

The Sooners took a 3-0 lead after senior Pultr earned a straight-set victory over UA's Thompson, 6-3, 6-1.

Peerakit Siributwong, ranked No. 74, earned a victory at the No. 4 position despite dropping the first set, 6-4. The sophomore Sooner took the second and third sets, 6-1, 6-0, against Carlos Bermudez to clinch the match.

At the No. 1 position, Tsvetan Mihov (No. 69) defeated Arizona's Giacomo Miccini in a close two set match, 6-4, 7-5, to continue the winning streak for the Sooners.

Arizona earned their only point of the match at the No. 6 spot where the Wildcats' Chou defeated Oklahoma's Formentera, 6-3, 6-4.

For the final point, Sooner freshman Dane Webb (No. 67) dropped the first set against UA's Urquidi, 3-6. Webb rallied in the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4, to earn Oklahoma the last point of the day.

"With singles, it is always tough when you pull your number one player out. When you have to move the whole lineup up one spot it is always going to be a little bit of a challenge for the guys because they are playing out of position and a little uncomfortable," Roddick said. "I was happy that we got in a little hole in the singles because it showed how we were able to dig our way out of it nicely. It was one small step forward."

Next up, the 31st-ranked Sooners will take on the 30th-ranked University of Louisville Cardinals in Norman on Monday, March 3 at 5:00 p.m.
