NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men’s tennis team edged Colorado, 4-3, on Sunday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. OU took all three doubles matches and three of the six singles games. The Sooners move to 15-4 and 1-2 in Big 12 play while the Buffaloes fall to 5-14 and 1-5 in the Big 12.

“I’m awfully proud of the guys because they fought hard from start to finish today,” said head coach Paul Lockwood. “After poor doubles play [against Lamar] on Friday, I was happy to see their performance today as we took all three doubles matches. Colorado is a tough team and it really helped us to have such a supportive home crowd.”

Oklahoma competed strong to clinch all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, junior Ondrej Fukala (Prerov, Czech Republic) and sophomore Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) crushed CU’s Evan Dixon and Peter Bjork, leaving them scoreless, 8-0. The duo of sophomore Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) and freshman Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) celebrated their second triumph of the season when they defeated CU’s Marek Dvorak and Marcus Digliodo, 8-5.

The final win came when junior Matt Long (Ft. Worth, Texas) and Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) slid by CU’s Chad Tsuda and Marko Bundalo with a tight 9-7 victory at the No. 2 spot. The pair improve to a solid 12-5 on the season.
OU split the singles triumphs with the Buffaloes, capturing three of the six matches. Velicka, Fukala and Gregg posted victories for the Sooners. The three newcomers lead the team with Velicka moving to 17-2 on the season while Gregg advances to 16-2 and  Fukala to 15-2.

The Sooners have a difficult week ahead as they host Wichita State on Wednesday and No. 2 Baylor on Saturday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m on Wednesday and 12 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
