NORMAN, Okla. - Freshman Catherine Wade, goalkeeper for the Oklahoma soccer team, was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Wade led the Sooners to shutout victories over Texas Tech and Colorado this past weekend in Norman.

The Midland, Texas, native is 6-1 on the year with a goals-against average of 0.47, which is 12th in the country. As a team, the Sooners have outscored their opponents, 29-4, and their scoring defense of 0.36 goals per game ranks second in the nation. OU's eight shutouts this season are a school record.

Wade is the second Sooner to earn Big 12 Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors this year. Senior defender Christen Secrest won the award on Sept. 25.

The Sooners (9-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12) have won three straight games and travel to Waco, Texas, to take on Baylor Friday at 7 p.m.
