NORMAN, Okla. -- Sophomore defender Claire West was named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District VI third team on Thursday as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

The awards mark the sixth consecutive season that at least one OU soccer player was named to the Academic All-District team.

West, a journalism major, has played in 17 games this season and started the last nine games for the Sooners’ defense.  West made her first career start earlier this season at home on Sept. 19 against LSU after seeing time in three games as a freshman.

The Sooners have one game remaining on the regular season slate against No. 9 Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.  The home finale presents high stakes for the Sooners, who need a win to advance to the Big 12 Championship next week.  Click here for the complete preview.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
