Women's Tennis to Face Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women’s tennis team is set to play three Big 12 matches this week against No. 15 Baylor, No. 11 Texas and No. 48 Texas A&M. The Sooners will travel to Waco, Texas, on Tuesday, March 21, to face Baylor and will return to host Texas and Texas A&M in Norman on March 25 and 26.

Oklahoma returned from competition in Honolulu, Hawaii, this week with wins over Hawaii and Bowdoin College. The Sooners defeated the Rainbow Wahines, 6-0, on Wednesday and went on to shut out the Polar Bears, 7-0, on Friday. With the two wins, OU improved to 6-6 overall.

Tuesday’s match will mark the 11th meeting between the Sooners and the Lady Bears with Baylor owning a 7-3 all-time series record. Oklahoma has defeated Texas only once in the 17 meetings between the squads, while Texas A&M has tallied a 14-4 all-time record against Oklahoma.

The matches against Texas and Texas A&M will be held at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Admission is free to all home matches.

Last Time Out
The Sooner women’s tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak on Wednesday when the Sooners defeated Hawaii, 6-0, in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex. The Sooners won five of the six singles matches in straight sets and did not play any doubles matches.

The Sooners picked up their second win of the week after defeating Bowdoin College, 7-0, on Friday. Oklahoma won all singles matches in straight sets and won all doubles matches.

Scouting Baylor
The No. 15 Lady Bears are 13-3 in spring matches after defeating No. 62 Arkansas, 5-1, on Saturday. Baylor’s three losses this season were to Duke, Vanderbilt and Pepperdine.

Baylor is led in the singles lineup by sophomore Zuzana Zemenova, who is ranked No. 13 in the country and is No. 1 in the Baylor lineup for the second straight year. Junior Zuzana Cerna will likely play at the No. 2 position and is ranked just behind Zemenova at No. 14 in the latest polls. The Lady Bears’ only other ranked singles player is senior Daniela Covello, who is slotted to play at No. 3 singles.

Scouting Texas
The No. 11 Longhorns fell to 8-7 on the season last week with 5-2 losses to No. 25 Tennessee and No. 13 Vanderbilt.

Texas has three singles players ranked in the national polls. Junior Petra Dizdar, senior Mia Marovic and sophomore Courtney Zauft are No. 57, No. 71 and T125, respectively, in the rankings. All three are expected to play in the lineup against Oklahoma.

Scouting Texas A&M
The Aggies are coming off of a closely fought match on Saturday to No. 2 Notre Dame in which Texas A&M fell, 4-3. The loss put the Aggies at 5-7 overall as they have lost three straight matches.

Junior Anna Lubinsky is slated to play at No. 1 singles. Lubinsky, who is No. 66 in the country and has an 8-4 spring record, will likely pair with fellow junior Nicki Mechem at No. 1 doubles.
